Here is a good way to attach larger leaves and vines into your tub. Make sure you take advantage of the vertical space and put plants and climbing branches up there too. Arrange your plants, sticks, paper towel tubes, food dishes, hides! Here are some of my tubs that I have set up. They look clean, and it is easy to spot poo. Tada! Your tub is now done! All that is left is to decorate itĪdd in your substrate. If it feels nice and taught you are good to go! Gently press your hand on the screen from the outside. You don't need to do this, I think it looks a little nicer in the end if you do.Ĭheck to make sure the screen is secure. This is kind of painful since the glue is very hot, but it isn't enough to cause burns (or maybe my skin is just that tough now ). I will sometimes press my finger over the freshly laid hot glue to press it in and seal it. Make sure the screen is touching the tub so that the hot glue can get into the mesh and adhere itself to the tub. I like to hold the screen nice and tight over the edges and put a little bit of glue there to hold it in place before I do the whole thing. Lay the screen as flat as you can over the opening. It is much easier to trim a little bit off the side, and much more wasteful to re-cut the piece of screen if you make it too small. Start out a little bit bigger then what you think you need. If it is a little bit big, trim a little off the sides and check it again. Place your screen on the inside of the tub and check to make sure it fits well. I made my screen pieces 1/2" bigger on all Make sure you cut the screen a little bit bigger then the opening you cut in your tub. Less surface area to clean and easier to dry.Ĭutting the screen. Wash your tub! I like to do this after I cut the square for the screen. The screen also doubles as a good climbing surface for cresties. I cut out two squares, one on the front side of the tub and one on the back. After you mist, the enclosure should be able to dry out before you mist again. The tub should go through a humidity cycle. You want enough screen to allow good air flow, but not too much so that it doesn't hold any humidity. If you live in a very dry climate, make the screened area smaller. If you live in a humid climate, make a bigger screened area. The screen size is directly related to the humidity. Mark where you want your screened in opening to be. Hopefully you all can recognize the other tools These tools are only a couple of dollars at the home depot right by where they keep the plexiglass. You could use an exacto knife or a box cutter, but it will be much more difficult. It is used to cut plastic and plexiglass. The little blue thing with the cap on it is called an acrylic scorer. These are the basic tools that you need to do this project. Remember that your crestie needs good sturdy climbing surfaces as well as foliage for hiding spots. I use plastic plants from the dollar store, sterilized sticks I find outside, and paper towel tubes. Plants and climbing branches:This can be as boring or elaborate as you want. You won't need nearly as much as provided for one tub, but chances are you will be getting a new gecko soon, right? Screen Mesh: I used fiberglass screen which can be found at the Home Depot or Lowes for about $5 for a huge roll. They are also some of the clearest tubs on the market. They are about equivalent to a 10g and nice and tall. Plastic tub: I used the container store's "deep sweater boxes". One tub only takes about 30 minutes to assemble so get your tools ready! I followed a few guides on how to make tubs for crested geckos and I thought I would post how I put mine together. Glass cages are nice, but once you acquire more than a few animals that each require their own glass tank, it gets rather expensive, heavy, and cumbersome. I really like tub setups for my reptiles.

Let me just say that the panda mini-washer is great and I highly recommend it to anyone currently using a Laundromat. I’m not great at expressing emotion, but I’m hoping you can tell how excited I am. When you factor in two dollars for the bus, five for the machines (per week), the mini-washer pays for its self after only about six months worth of laundry. I hang them up to air dry for that last 10%. A three minute spin gets my cloths about 90% dry. The spinner is much more effective than I was expecting. It’s about half the capacity of the washer so one wash takes about two loads to dry. You have to drain and refill between each cycle so it’s a little more labor intensive than a traditional washer. I do it in three wash cycles, a five minute rinse with baking soda, a five minute wash with soap and a three minute rinse with water. I use my shower head to fill it up so it goes faster, the sink hook up took about five minutes to fill the whole tub, with the shower head is is down to a minute an a half. Yes, it even drys.īasically you shove your cloths into the washer, fill it up with water and let it go. The left is the washer the right is the spin dryer. The jeans took up a whole load while the rest filled the bin only half way. The basket from the first picture represents about one and a half loads. The panda mini washer hooks up to the sink, is incredibly lightweight (about 28 pounds, so light even I can lift it) and easy to use. My current apartment doesn’t have a laundry facility and the closest Laundromat about a 30 min bus ride which is just not practical. Let me tell you about my panda mini-washerĪs an apartment dweller, this is a game changer. If you mess with the settings yourself, i bet you could get the picture to look better, as i did this with the presets. This can even work with colored drawing, if you’d like! Once scanned, the app will make it so your drawing looks like this: (sometimes it wont be too accurate, but that can be easily fixed by moving the frame yourself) The app will automatically crop your picture and come out with something like this: What does this app do? well, basically it imitates a scanner, so even if you don’t have one, you can take real cool pictures of your drawings!įor this to work, i suggest you take a picture of your entire paper / sketchbook / etc. Hello! I recently found this rad app called “CamScanner”, a mobile app for android and iOS I didn’t even realize openoffice was discontinued… now I feel old!! I’ll edit the original post!ĬamScanner: a must have for traditional artists! Note: I would suggest LibreOffice over OpenOffice, because LibreOffice is still being updated! and in some cases, the free versions are almost as powerful, so you might find that you saved a lot of money but made work that was just about equal to what you might have done with paid software!

After amateur and professional astronomers first reported flares of light on Mars, planetary observers predicted when they might appear next. Our final mystery in this issue centers on Mars and an expedition undertaken by several of our editors and authors, members of the Association of Lunar and Planetary Observers, and a NASA scientist. So they’re all young people wearing old-age makeup.” Jake has, in effect, aged everyone in his life with him to make the process more comfortable. As Kaufman himself explained, “All of the people who were in the audience, with the exception of the characters from the movie, are the extras who played high school kids in the rest of the movie. He is obviously aged to a great degree, representing his death, but the packed theater audience is also all horribly aged, as well. However, the adaptation lets it be vague enough for the viewer to decide what it means. The Janitor is depressed, and because of the title of the movie, it might suggest that he is contemplating ending things through suicide. It can also symbolize his depression eating him alive. The idea of decay, shown by the pigs getting eaten alive by maggots, symbolizes how the character is feels about getting older or how he views the journey of aging. The narrator views getting older and the moments that lead to death as completely negative things. The passage of time brings to the other important element to be able to understand this movie: decay. But with this setting, the strings are likely to break, because the tension on them is much stronger than usual. you need to adjust all the strings evenly higher. To play on low tones the thicker strings are better. If a tone lower - D A F C G D, and so on. If you start from a classical tuning, it was - E B G D A E, it became - D# A# F# C# G# D#. To tune your guitar a semitone lower, you need to tune all the strings a semitone lower than they have been tuned. That lower E continued the arrangement of perfect fourths used for all string pairs except the major-third interval adopted for the second and third strings, resulting in the standard guitar tuning that remains today.First, we list all the notes together with semitones in ascending order:Ĭ → C# → D → D# → E → F → F# → G → G# → A → A# → B → C →. “And threatens to sour the whole thing.”įortunately, since the ADGBE tuning for the top five strings had already been adopted in the 16th century-before a lower sixth string tuned to E was added-such a problematic tuning arrangement was avoided. “This is a god-awful interval,” Lloyd wrote. You can see the problem there-E and F are only a half step apart, imposing a naturally irritating interval of a minor second. Lloyd also astutely pointed out that if six-string guitars were tuned completely in perfect fourths, you’d wind up with a harmonically discordant arrangement of (low to high) EADGCF. So it makes sense that the next string should be the fourth.” On a guitar, a person with a normal-sized hand can reasonably be expected to sound the major third with the pinkie finger while holding down the tonic with the index finger. So our next best choice for tuning any larger scaled multi-stringed instrument is going to be to tune in fourths, which are a little closer together. With the guitar sitting in the lap and the neck diagonal to the player, the bend in the wrist starts to make it more difficult to spread out the fingers. “Even though the cello is a larger instrument than the violin, it is played with the neck vertically, which allows the hand to have a little bit easier time reaching for notes. “The guitar is a larger-scaled instrument which is played sitting in one’s lap,” Lloyd wrote. Lowering what would’ve been that high open F by one half step to an open E returned the interval from first string to second string (B) to a perfect fourth.įormer Television guitarist and prominent music instructor Richard Lloyd once noted that while the violin and the cello lend themselves nicely to tuning in fifths because of their small scale length, the same doesn’t necessarily hold true on a larger-scale instrument such as a guitar. Tuning the third and second strings (G and B) to a major-third interval made fingering easier than continuing a series of perfect fourths, which would’ve resulted in a second string tuned to C and a first string tuned to F. The five-course guitarra battente that first appeared in Italy in the 1500s was tuned ADGBE, as are the top five strings of the modern six-stringed guitar. It was a departure from the four-course guitar-like instruments (“course” in this sense meaning a pair of strings tuned in unison) dominant since the beginning of the Renaissance. You’ll be well on your way to finding the right guitar for you. Looking for a beginner guitar? Our interactive gear guide,, matches you with the perfect model by learning about your sound & style. The aim was to create a tuning that would ease the transition between fingering simple chords and playing common scales, minimizing fret-hand movement. The reason? It’s simultaneously musically convenient and physically comfortable, a conclusion players came to a few hundred years ago. To be exact, from low to high, standard guitar tuning is EADGBE-three intervals of a fourth (low E to A, A to D and D to G), followed by a major third (G to B), followed by one more fourth (B to the high E). Guitars, however, are typically tuned in a series of ascending perfect fourths and a single major third. (For inquiring minds, all-fifths tuning means that the interval between each open strings is a perfect fifth.) The history of that sequence is interesting, especially because most everyone using stringed instruments such as the violin, cello and mandolin over the past 1,000 years have agreed that they are best tuned in fifths. Ever wonder why the “standard” tuning of a guitar is EADGBE? |
